A Note From Mrs. Royse

We have so much to be thankful for in first grade!  We had a wonderful Author's Celebration this week.  I hope you enjoyed your child's story. (It is a pumpkin book.) They have become such great authors and I just love reading their precious stories.

Our week was very busy as we studied about the Pilgrim's journey from England to America.  The favorite by far was taking the Pilgrim games outside and playing them.  It was a beautiful day and the students put on the Pilgrim costumes and pretended to be back in the 1600's.  It was a great time playing the games and comparing them to the games we play today.

We had so much fun on Freedom Day!  We walked over to Oak Ridge High School and the students did an awesome job sitting in the bleachers and listening to the    program.  We had a great time learning about our veterans and the great country that we live in.

We learned about magnets in science and the students loved exploring all about them.  The students began writing their own addition story problems in math.  You may want to give them an addition sentence and see if they can come up with a story problem for it.  They are doing quite well with this concept.  We took a fact check this week.  Many students still need to work on becoming faster at adding and subtracting up to 10.

Our SHSU method student, Miss Lechmann had her last day this Friday.  She was such a great addition to our classroom and we will miss her.

It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is upon us.  This year is going by so quickly!
